Earnlings Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 9, 2026
Earnlings ("we," "us") is a family chores-and-allowance app made by Kelton Kremer. It helps parents give kids real responsibilities, real earnings, and a visible record of reliability. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices your family has. It is written to be readable by a parent, not just a lawyer.
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to work — account info, the tasks and content your family creates, and a device token for notifications. Nothing else.
- We show no ads, use no third-party trackers or analytics, and never sell data.
- Children's accounts exist only inside a family a parent created, joined with a code only the parent has, and confirmed by the parent in the app.
- Parents can review their child's activity in the app and can delete a child's account (and all its data) at any time. Anyone can delete their own account in Settings.
What we collect
Account information. Name, email address or phone number, and a password (handled by Firebase Authentication — we never see or store the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google account identity (display name).
Family content your household creates. Chores/quests and their completion records; optional proof photos; family chat messages; announcements and poll votes; savings goals; kindness acts and "make-it-right" notes; nightly reflections (private to the child unless the child chooses "share"); allowance/payout records (amounts the parent chose — Earnlings never holds or transfers real money).
Device information. A push-notification token so we can deliver notifications (e.g., "a quest needs your approval"). We collect no advertising identifiers, no location, and no contacts.
Screen time (optional feature, iOS). If a parent sets screen-time rules, limits are enforced by Apple's Family Controls on the child's device. Earnlings stores the rules the parent created and the extra minutes purchased in-app; raw device-usage statistics stay on the device with Apple.
What we do NOT collect
No ads or ad identifiers. No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. No location. No contacts. No data sale or sharing for marketing — to anyone, ever.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Earnlings is designed for families with children, including children under 13. We treat children's data with corresponding care:
- A child's account can only exist inside a family that a parent created first. Joining requires a private 6-character invite code that only the parent has.
- When a child joins, the parent is asked in the app to confirm the child's account and consent to our collection of the child's information as described here. We record that confirmation.
- We collect from children only what the app's features require (name, sign-in credential, and the content they create in the app), and we use it only to operate the app for their family.
- Parents can review their child's activity through the parent views, and **can delete the child's account and its data at any time** from the child's detail screen.
- We do not show children ads, do not use their data for marketing, and do not disclose it except to the service providers below.
- Questions or requests about a child's data: earnlings@gmail.com.
Service providers (the only third parties)
We share data only with providers who process it on our behalf to run the app:
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, file storage, and server functions. All family data lives here.
- Expo — delivers push notifications (receives the device token and the notification text).
- Anthropic — premium feature only. If a family subscribes, the weekly AI "parent report" sends Anthropic a limited summary: the child's first name only, weekly numbers (chores done, reliable days, amounts earned/saved/given), and short excerpts (up to a few hundred characters) of shared reflections and make-it-right notes. No email, phone, photos, or account identifiers are sent. The summary is used only to generate that report.
- Google Sign-In — only if you choose Google to sign in.
Retention and deletion
- Proof photos are automatically deleted from storage after approximately 30 days.
- Account data and family content are kept while the account exists.
- Delete your account anytime in Settings → account menu → Delete account. **Parents can delete a child's account** from the child's detail screen. Deletion removes the account and its personal data; some family records (e.g., the family's transaction ledger) are retained in anonymized form so the rest of the family's history still adds up.
- You can also email earnlings@gmail.com for access, correction, or deletion requests.
Security
Data is transmitted over TLS and stored in Google Cloud with per-family access rules — family data is readable only by signed-in members of that family, and sensitive child entries (like make-it-right notes) are further restricted to the parent's review flow.
Changes
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and notify families in the app before the changes take effect.
